About Us

Iowa LICA Conservation Demonstration Farm

With more than 90% of Iowa’s land used for agriculture, conserving our soil and water is important for the livelihood of future generations within our state and nationwide.

While farming, construction, and landscaping operations integrate new technologies and emerging trends, state legislative and regulatory policies also must evolve to ensure protective and ethical practices to conserve soil and water integrity. Professional contractors working on our land deserve to have trusted resources for staying informed of conservation best practices while still optimizing profitability.

Iowa Land Improvement Contractors Association (Iowa LICA) is the state’s leading resource for individuals and businesses dedicated to land management practices that protect our soil and water. Our multi-generational membership values sharing, learning, and promoting best practices, operations, and equipment that safeguards the integrity of our soil and water for future generations.

Iowa LICA Conservation Demonstration Farm

On November 10, 2003, Iowa LICA proudly acquired an 80-acre farm located just outside of Melbourne, IA. This farm has since become the Iowa LICA Conservation Demonstration Farm, showcasing our commitment to environmental stewardship. By implementing various conservation practices over the years, we have successfully controlled runoff from a exceeding 1,000 acres.

Our efforts have resulted in the farm effectively stopping over 50% of phosphates and nearly 100% of nitrates from entering the water, exemplifying the vital work Iowa LICA contractors perform daily to protect our waters from nutrient soil pollution.
